Nanofair® 2009
Nanofair 2009 again was a great success. Scientists as well as researchers from industry gathered in Dresden to participate the conference in the International Congress Center, within splitting distance to the noted places and historic spots of the city of Dresden.
The conference was opened by a plenary talk of Peter Grünberg, nobel laureate of 2007 in physics, who gave an impressive overview on the actual developments in the field of magnetism in thin layered structures. Other invited speakers included Dirk Stenkamp, board member of Carl Zeiss SMT AG, who spoke about imaging and structuring in the Nano-World, as well as Yoshio Bando of the National Institute for Materials Science, Tsukuba Japan and Hidekazu Tanaka, ISIR Osaka University. Their talks as well as the others were lively discussed during the coffee breaks. The evening of the first day ended in the famous City Museum of Dresden. On invitation of the City of Dresden participants could relax, enjoy a nice buffet and tour the exposition.
In addition to the conference program itself Nanofair 2009 again offered an interesting supporting program for the participants. The “Nanofair Career Forum” just the day before the conference offered students the opportunity to find out about career options in the solar industry and to discuss with leading CEO´s and managers active in this business.
During the day following the conference participants had the possibility to take part in a workshop on “Commercializing Future Technologies for Energy and Energy Efficiency” at the premises of Fraunhofer IWS. The workshop also included a special session on 1:1 Meetings in order to initiate international cooperation. Tours to leading photovoltaic companies completed the much acclaimed workshop. Most participants expressed their intention to come back to the next conference as well as to the workshop.
